Perfect Imperfections

Being professionals in the working industry, it is almost a “need”, to want things to turn out successful and perfect every time. But perfect is a very strong word because our perception of success may vary from person to person. Sometimes we find ourselves questioning other’s ideals because to us, there are flaws and loopholes to their ideas when it does not resonate with our own. So, does this then mean we fall under the category of a perfectionist?

Wanting to perfect the things we do for ourselves, is a good way to gauge where we stand in our career as well as setting future milestones and benchmarks. But where do we cross the line of being a confident high achiever versus a perfectionist who put too much pressure on success? To the point where not only does it affect our self-esteem when things don’t go the way it was supposed to, it puts unnecessary pressure on our co-workers as well.

Today, I would like to share 3 articles with everyone on how to determine if perfectionism is affecting you in the workplace as well as defining if there are traits of a perfectionist that likes in you.

This article sheds light on the expectations we might have when it comes to our success, the people around us as well as the social norms we live in.

You might wonder, why “Unicorn”? Well, this article is a very interesting one where it touches on huge business start-ups and the attitudes of perfectionism that comes with them. As quoted in the article:

“The unicorn, through its intemperance and not knowing how to control itself, for the love it bears to fair maidens forgets its ferocity and wildness; and laying aside all fear it will go up to a seated damsel and go to sleep in her lap, and thus the hunters take it” – Leonardo Da Vinci
